· However, critics say that beauty pageants reinforce the idea that a girl should be valued for her physical appearance and promote an unrealistic expectation of beauty.

· Many times the kids don't have anything in mind but to look good, project, and feel beautiful at all times especially when the contest is near, they tend to neglect their studies. This neglect usually leads to incomplete assignments and eventually, failing grades.
· Sometimes, joining the pageant was never the choice of the girl but rather the parents. Was it something they wanted to but never did?

· Young children spend numerous hours every day practicing speeches and model walks for upcoming pageants rather than focusing on schoolwork and playing with friends.
· Children become devastatingly concerned with the way that they look before many of them can walk.
· Emphasis is placed on appearance in beauty contests, which sends out a negative message that you have to look good to be successful.

· Little girls in pageants are buried under fake tans, hair extensions, false eyelashes, make-up, and fake teeth. This sends out the message that you are not good enough the way you are.


· These little girls quickly learn that anything other than perfectly happy is unacceptable. This teaches them that mad or sad feelings are bad, and that happy and content feelings are good.
· Girls learn to ignore their internal states, and may try to numb, avoid or distract the uncomfortable feelings, which could lead to eating disorders, drugs, alcohol, and even cutting.
